COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION
Union Hall C.D.A. was established in 1998 to develop community facilities in the area. The Community Hall was built in 2000 and provides an essential community, social and sports centre for the area. Presently the Hall facilitates Parent & Toddler Group, Foroige, indoor soccer tournaments, Children’s Tae Kwon Do, socials, birthday parties and Halloween and Christmas events etc. The Hall is available for rent for any occasion at very reasonable rates. FOROIGE
Foróige is the leading youth organisation in Ireland, working with approximately 50,000 young people aged 10-18 every year through volunteer-led clubs and staff-led youth projects. Founded in 1952, Foróige currently operates in 26 counties in Ireland, with 480 Foróige clubs, 142 youth projects, the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programme, youth information centres and the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship. Foróige works with all young people through our general services and also works with vulnerable young people who require additional support through a full range of targeted services. General services such as Foróige clubs, special interest groups, volunteer-led youth cafés, feeder clubs and youth fora, encourage young people to take responsibility and be part of shaping the world around them while developing their talents, skills and character, while also having a great time along the way. Targeted services such as Garda Youth Diversion Projects, Teen Parent Support Programmes and Neighbourhood Youth Projects, help young people to deal with issues associated with poverty, marginalisation and social exclusion, under-achievement at school, early school leaving, youth crime, substance abuse and family difficulties in a safe friendly environment.

Castlehaven Gaelic Football Club is a West Cork-based GAA club in the parish of Castlehaven near the town of Skibbereen. Their site provides all current news and full history of the club. LITTLE HAVEN PLAYSCHOOL
Little Haven Playschool was opened on 2nd September 2004 in the new building built during the previous year, and has increased its number of pupils attending every year since.
There are two childcare workers in the setting at any given time, Rosie and Nicola both work five days a week from 9 am to 12.30pm
Rosie and Nicola are both qualified with Fetac Childcare Certificates, both have valid first aid certificates and Nicola also has Fetac Level 5 Special Needs Assistant Certificate. At the moment both are doing further study for higher level Fetac qualifications.
The day to day running of the playschool is managed by a progressive committee made up of parents of children in the playschool within the given year. They deal with organisation of fundraisers, help in the running of the playschool etc. There is always room for more volunteers and all help is greatly appreciated.
The playschool is a community based playschool and is run on a non profit basis. It relies on HSE and other grants and the fees charged for attendance. Unfortunately this money does not meet the high costs of running such an establishment and the deficit is made up with fundraising events. It is on this note that we would like to say a big thank you to all the generous people, family, friends, parishioners etc who always help out with and contribute to our various fundraisers. Whether it is baking for the coffee morning, donating to the church gate collection, buying or selling tickets, or just giving a helping hand whenever we need it, we are very grateful especially in the present economic times that we find ourselves.
Every penny raised is put back in to the playschool to buy equipment or help with the various running costs.

MYROSS ROWING CLUB
Myross Rowing Club has been in existence since1924, and has a long and proud tradition of rowing in West Cork. It has enjoyed great success throughout its history, and from its beginnings up to today, Myross Rowing Club has always done the parish proud. Between 1924 and the 1950s, six oar gigs were rowed in the local area, many famous victories have been recorded and are part of the folklore of the club. In the 1960s, the four oar gigs became commonplace and this led onto the boats that are rowed today – the four oared yawls. The arrival of the new four oared one design boat came in 2002 and was raced for the first time at the 2002 All-Ireland finals in Carnlough in Co. Antrim. This is the boat we still use today.
The official opening of our boathouse took place in 1999. This was the result of many hard years of fundraising, and it enables members to train all year round. The club has four rowing machines and a selection of training equipment. The rowing season starts with the first regatta in June, and regattas are held every Sunday during the summer, culminating in the All-Ireland finals held at the end of August each year.
Rowing is a sport for all ages; there are races for both boys and girls from under 12s up to veteran age groups.
Myross Rowing Club has had huge success in the All-Ireland finals over the years, and if it’s a local or an All-Ireland regatta, everyone knows a Myross team is one to watch.
The club has won the coveted All-Ireland Club of the Day on no less than six occasions in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2008. The Club has won All-Ireland gold medals in almost every category at one time or another down through the years. The club had the honour of hosting the hugely successful 1996 and 2007 All-Ireland finals. These attracted huge crowds from all over Ireland to Union Hall. Huge efforts were put in by all members of the club to make these events very successful. The Rowing Club has a great following in the summer season, particularly at its annual regatta in Union Hall.
Myross Rowing Club has enjoyed many successful years, some more so than others but the club has never been without a boat and never been without good people behind it. Everyone is encouraged to come and try rowing; no matter what age, there will be an event for you!

The new parish assembly began its three year term earlier this year. The Assembly has four working groups:

RNLI
The RNLI is an independent charity, and does not receive any government funding. Our volunteer lifeboat crews and our lifeguards can’t save lives at sea without your support.
Lifeboats need to be designed, built, fuelled and maintained, and our crews trained and equipped. Lifeguards also need training and equipment. Can you help?

UNION HALL WOMEN’S GROUP
The group started in 2007 as part of an Equality for Women Measures Programme co-ordinated by West Cork Community Partnership (now West Cork Development Partnership). Activities the group have been involved with include silk painting, a digital camera workshop, yoga, mosaic-making, local history talks, understanding dreams, first aid, sock-knitting, dressmaking, Irish language classes, guided tours, cookery workshops, cinema, concerts, theatre, patchwork quilting, voluntary work with asylum seekers, walking, networking with other women's groups, making and selling a variety of different crafts, lots of coffee-drinking, any excuse for a meal out, chatter and laughter. The group has also made trips to Dresden and Salzberg to visit the Christmas Markets. Union Hall Women's Group is always open to new faces and new ideas.
